MENTEE PROCESS
What makes MomsHope different from other mentoring programs is our commitment to do life with single moms in a way that leads to sustainable change.
Breaking the cycle of poverty requires more than a pep talk and a shoulder to cry on. It involves developing the necessary skills it takes to navigate life’s successes and setbacks. Honing these skills takes time, therefore we require a minimum one-year commitment from our Mentees and Mentors. However, if a Mentee is able to accomplish her goals in a shorter time period, she may qualify to graduate before the first year has ended.
Each candidate undergoes a rigorous application process to become a Mentee. If we find that she is not ready for the program, she will receive a copy of her Resource Inventory with an explanation of the areas she can work on to become a qualified candidate. She may also be referred to an organization(s) that can help meet her immediate needs .
Every mom enters our program in a unique place, so a customized plan will be created for them, focusing on their most critical areas of need first. Single moms in our program will quickly learn that the hard work will not be done for them, but we will teach them how to do the work for themselves. Mentors will also provide the support and accountability they need when fears or feelings of inadequacy arise. They will not have to do life alone.
Not only will the mom’s Mentor be there to support her, but the entire MomsHope team plays an integral role in her success – not to mention the other moms in our program who provide peer-to-peer support.
