There are times in our lives when the natural calls for the supernatural. When we can’t see past the soil of earth to the pavement of heaven, and when fear demands a level of faith far beyond our experience.

It is in these times of blindness when we can’t see God in any of the random and sordid details of life that we are called to a higher plane of vision—spiritual vision.

The story of Elisha and his servant depicts this kind of vision. It is an unrivaled faith-building experience. It literally sends chill-bumps up and down my arms when I read it, tell of it, or write about it (see 2 Kings 6:8-23).

In a nutshell, Elisha was a hunted man. The king of Syria, an enemy of Israel, had placed an order to capture and kill the Prophet. Elisha’s servant discovered the horror of being surrounded one morning by enemy soldiers sent by the Syrian king.

2 Kings 6:15; When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.

Elisha’s servant, who was with him, panicked. He panicked because of what his eyes were seeing, and what his heart was fearing. Elisha, however, had faith that reached beyond natural vision to supernatural provision and prayed to have that same blessing bestowed on his servant.

2 Kings 6:16-17; “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Amazing! God peeled back the divine curtain to reveal the mighty army of heaven—in staggering numbers and breathless glory—standing guard and ready for battle on their behalf.

I don’t know about you, but I need this right now. As I move forward in my own faith walk this week, I am praying you are too. What circumstance in your life is tempting you to question if God is in it at all?

Faith is the only answer. Especially in these circumstances where we can’t seem to see God. Faith is a spiritual blessing, a weapon of war, a gift given for our time on earth. It is paramount for surviving the terror of night, and the arrow that flies by day (Psalm 91). It is also an immediate remedy to quiet the screams of fear and the threat of panic as it ushers in a peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7).

If you find yourself in this place of uncertainty right now, God is calling you to faith and to vision; to see beyond the natural to His supernatural provision. He has a plan and purpose for your life. A hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11)

The big question is: Do you trust Him?

I know for me, I tend to lean toward the natural—what I can see, taste, smell, touch. You know the concrete stuff of life. Those things make sense to me.

However, there is something deep within me, at my core, where the spirit of the living God resides that beckons me to trust, and believe, and to hope in what I can’t see. Scripture tells us that we, as Christians, live by faith, not by sight. But how do we do this?

We must turn off all the outside noise that keeps us stuck. Stuck in the natural. It’s time to peek behind the curtain of heaven. It’s there, in the space between grace and glory that our eyes are open to see Him.
