Time for a Time Out?

Verse for the Week: “Yes, my soul, find rest in God: my hope comes from him.” (Psalm 62:5)

This week was filled with mommy moments as two of my three kids were sick with the flu. I don’t care how old our kids are, they still want Mom when they are sick.

Needless to say, my life got real crazy real quick. Now that I’m working full-time, the time I do have is tight. And yet everything still needs to get done. I’m sure you know exactly what I mean, don’t you?!

So between multiple trips to urgent care, more loads of laundry than I care to do, and following sneezy, moaning kids to and from the bathroom wiping down every surface they dared to touch or breath on, I was exhausted emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

I kinda just wanted a time out. You know…just a few moments to regroup and catch my breath.

I think so many of us find ourselves in this mode of spinning like a top, unaware that we need a time out until something stops the spinning and we are dizzy and dead in the water.

How about you?

What is your temperature? Are you a hot mess spiritually? Emotionally? Mentally? Physically?

Are you running on empty? Burned out? In need of a time out?

Then let’s head to the Word. Because in the Word we will find rest and peace for our frenzied minds, and food for our starving souls.

Our scripture for this week from Psalm 62 declares our rest is found in God alone. “Yes, my soul, find rest in God: my hope comes from him.” (Psalm 62:5)

Do you crave the presence of God? I find that the more time I spend with Him—praying, reading His Word, being still in His presence—the more I crave Him. But in order to satisfy this craving, I must be still, quiet and create an environment for this to happen.

In essence, it’s a time out. Time out from the crazy lives we lead. Especially the working single moms—boy do we need to get creative with our time management skills in order to carve out these precious and sacred moments.

But please try. You need it. I need it. We definitely need this space for rejuvenation and rest.

The only way to find your way back to balance is the walk purposefully with the Lord, step by step. And the only way to do that is to hear His voice and heed His direction.

I want to encourage you this week to carve out some time for a time out. Get in the Word. The psalms are a great place to start. Let God’s word—His voice—direct your steps and heal your heart and give you peace.

You are amazing and the task you have been entrusted to do—raising children in this single parent environment and working to support them—is a high calling and a tough ask but rest assured God see’s your hard work.

Don’t let the enemy steal any of your progress or your peace. Especially in those hard mommy moments where you question your strength. Lean into His strength and lean into His rest. It is there, in the midst of His presence, where you will find peace for your soul, for your restless mind, and for your aching heart.

Prayer:

Lord, quiet my restless mind. Wash me with your words and heal me as I sit in your presence. Thank you for seeing me in my exhaustion and tending to my needs. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Hugs for a great week and remember, you are not alone. Be blessed and take a time out.
