Matthew 19:26

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

PRAYER

Our Father, Almighty God, you are more than enough for me and my children. Help me this week to remember your truth and to use it to fight the good fight.

You have overcome the world and all its’ problems, I thank you and I praise you for your presence, your protection, your provision, your power, and your purpose. Teach me how to use your word to fight the giants in my life.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Additional Devotions

I have found that one of the hardest parts of being a single mom is the constant fear of “not enough”! Not enough money. Not enough time. Not enough love. Not enough discipline. Not enough attention.

Let’s face it, being a single mom brings with it a heavy burden when it comes to raising our kids. How can I do this on my own? Where will the money come from? Will my kids suffer? Am I doing a good job? What it all comes down to, is this—Am I enough?

The answer is a big-fat, No! We are not enough… BUT GOD is!!!

Today we are going to take our lesson from the story of David and Goliath. Just like David when he faced his real-life giant, Goliath, all he had: five smooth stones, a sling shot, and his faith.

Our goal for this week is to learn to fight like David. We are going to gather our own fighting stones to use in battle when the fear of not enough towers over us like an angry Goliath. Each stone will represent a truth from our God about his presence, his power, his provision, his protection, and his purpose. My hope is that you will learn these truths, trust them, and then use them in your own life and in your own battle.

First stone = PRESENCEI am not enough, BUT GOD is! (Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God”)

Second stone = PROTECTION: We worry about who is influencing our kids… BUT GOD will guard them and guide them! (Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me”)

Third stone = PROVISION: We worry we won’t HAVE enough… BUT GOD provides! (Psalm 73:26, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever”)

Fourth stone = POWER: We worry that our kids will grow up broken because of an absent father… BUT GOD heals! (Isaiah 40:11, “He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young”)

Finally we come the fifth and final stone of truth and it is God’s almighty purpose. David found his purpose as a leader in the battle with Goliath. Not because he was stronger or more capable, but because he dug into his faith and believed God would fight for him and through him.

Fifth stone = PURPOSE: We ask why me… BUT GOD sees an opportunity! (Genesis 50:20, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives”)

The obstacles we face can either be internal, us being our own obstacle, or external, other people sabotaging our efforts. Regardless, an obstacle is an obstacle… BUT GOD sees an opportunity.

Let’s learn how to see this obstacle of not enough as an opportunity for God to show off and do what only God can do. Be strong and focused this week as you pick up your stones of truth and fight your own giants. Single motherhood just might be the biggest battle of your life. Take heart, God has called you and equipped you for the fight and wants to do amazing things for you and through you!

Reflect and Respond:

What is your battle? Do you also struggle with ‘not enough’? My challenge for you this week is to identify at least one giant in your life right now. It might be a fear, a frustration, a person—it can be anything that is holding you and your peace hostage. Get a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle of it. Write your giant on one side. Really try and define it, if possible get it down to a few words like I did above (Fear of Not Enough). Then, on the other side, write a prayer using all five weapons of truth/scriptures. I promise you, it will build your faith and turn your eyes to the One who can overcome any giant in your life.

Remember, you are not alone. Have a blessed week.
